Chew your fat

Why is it important to chew your food? Rendesia e pertypjes korrekte te ushqimit.

1. Food is the source of life and as such it should be appreciated. Take your time and try to fully enjoy each and every single ingredient that is found in your food by savoring each morsel.

2. The process of the food breakdown and digestion starts in your mouth. Chewing signals the body to create and release enzymes that assist these processes. If we pass the food without chewing it properly then the stomach will need more time (and also encounter some difficulties) to properly digest them. When taken in the form of squeezed juices or smoothies, we can risk to lazy  our organism, by  turning our chewing muscles into jobless.

3. The more dissolved the food, higher the number of nutrients our organism can absorb.

4. If we chew the food properly and we eat slowly it will be enough for the body to understand whether it is satisfied or it needs more food to achieve the satiation level. In average, our bodies require 20 minutes to make this “judgment”. So, give it its time! 🙂

5. We spend calories while chewing, indeed :-D, but don’t get too excited, this value averages 11 Kcal / hour, and No!, don’t think that by eating the whole day you will manage to spend a considerable amount of calories :-). Apart the jokes, the value itself is not as important as the fact that while chewing our foods we activate the muscles in our oral system that participate in this process. Let’s call it an oral workout.

6. When most of your calories come from carbohydrates, chewing is very important because the body tends to send the digested carbs as a direct energy use to the blood (known as blood glucose) instead of depositing them.

7. During the digestive process our organism needs to understand how much enzymes to produce but this process requires its time. Chewing properly goes in parallel with eating slowly and  WHOALA, the body takes its time to make its calculations.

8. The temperature of the food in your plate is never the same as the body temperature and our body tends to neutralize the temperatures of all the components that pass through it. This process is positive in terms of cell functioning. To make the long story short, our organism works, which means calorie burn and active cells.

9. Chewing maximizes the digestive process, which in turn translates into more energy, focus, a mind clarity and a comfortable sleep.

10. When making a smoothie or a mixed soup I feel somehow bad. How can we be so cruel and destroy the inside view of the maracuja (pictured in this post, easily distinguishable 😀 ) for example? Some fruits I tend to never blend, I love to compose them in my plate (the picture used for this post is from a Monday breakfast – I tried to change the Monday’s reputation 🙂 and savor them piece by piece. In a smoothie I find it difficult to distinguish all the blended flavors.
